Another wave of quotes regarding the sketchiness of the new Myspace
Music. I sense an exodus coming unless they can make things a little more
fair...
I really hope they work it out and that everyone gets paid equally for
streams...

I'm pretty sure I'd just scream like a tiny little girl and run for my
life, but this radio announcer here knows that his voice keeps the people
of his nation strong and lively and he must not stop, even when
threatened with fire! Note: only silly because it all turns out
okay in the end. If he were engulfed in flames, the category would
change.

Thanks to everyone for coming out tonight in spite of all of the
political excitment. We've got a last minute (well, 1 1/2 weeks
away) show addition. You've all seen me gush about Dead
Confederate. Well, we're opening for them! Also on the bill
is Mean Creek, one of my favorite (maybe my favorite) Boston bands.
I don't know anything about Catfish Haven, but I will just assume that
they are awesome too. It's a Monday, but it's an early
show.

I realize that I'm posting a lot of political and economic stuff
lately. I guess it's just what's going around. Anyway, I keep
reading more and more about the economic "crisis" and the
bailout and I really am wondering if there is a way to hop on this
situation to equalize wealth in the country rather than just take $2500
from everyone and hand it to rich people. I like the proposals I've
seen (which are fantasies) suggesting that we should bail the companies
out and that every single American should receive $2500 in shares of
stock (which I imagine would then be ultimately worth much less than
$2500, but have the potential to bounce back) for all of the companies
receiving the money. Then, they would not have to pay the money
back (which they won't really anyway as far as I can understand) and
we'll all at least get something equal out of the deal.
Without any economic expertise and only a hair-thin grasp on what the
hell is going on, this sounds reasonable to me. I am running for
Congress by the way...would you all consider voting for me? I hear
you get like 10 months vacation a year.
Here's some footage of other nations reacting as well as the commentary
of one economist:
Definitely listen to that NPR piece I mentioned
a few posts back...and give the local economy a boost by leaving your
house tonight and attending the rock show at TT's!

This is an interesting article over on The Tripwire.
It all really just sounds scarier and scarier for indie artists. I
am not ready to yank all our stuff from myspace just yet, but I have the
impression that this whole thing is a big middle finger to independent
music. I am curious to see how it pans out and how everyone
reacts.

Myspace Music launched today. I am not linking to it nor do I
really want to promote it. I write only to complain that we still
have no access to monetizing our music through it. So, while plays
of major label artists (and select indies who are working with Orchard)
are now translating to $$ for them, we still have our music on our
myspace page and still get nothing for streams or downloads. I
tried to post to CDBaby, our digital distributor's message board, asking
what their plan and status was, but they have not yet approved the post
(I suspect they won't) and despite this being THE biggest digital music
news in the past few years, they have yet to make a statement regarding
the future of any relations between CDBaby and Myspace. This sort
of encourages me to consider not using them as a digital distributor any
longer, but I am giving them the benefit of the doubt and assuming they
are absolutely scrambling to get a deal inked. They've generally
been great, though sometimes a bit slow in getting our music distributed
to digital sales sites.
Anyway, this is extremely frustrating and it feels like we're missing out
on something big - a brand new model (of sorts) for monetizing our
music. I suppose patience is the key here...
I will be holding my breath.

I am a regular reader of the Help A Reporter Out mailing list -
http://helpareporter.com/
It's a two-to-three times a day list of calls from journalists seeking
people to interview for articles on an endless variety of topics.
Even though I seldom respond to any of the call (there's not too many
calls for Dance Dance Revolution players or snarky indie rockers), I find
it interesting even just reading the topics of articles being
written.
Here's a randomly selected example:

question of why, in a day when women make good money, there's an

for
men's and women's stories, to be included anonymously in a book for
Random House. Thanks!"
